Can Williams And Lee Both Play On Nickel? Posted by jellis at 6/3/2010 5:17 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com
While second-year linebacker Jason Williams and rookie Sean lee are competing for a spot on the Cowboys' third down package, there's still an outside chance they could both play on the dime.
It's Bobby Carpenter's spot they're practicing at now, but remember Keith Brooking is 34 and Bradie James is 29. That's not old or anything, but remember he's been banging heads in the NFL for seven years now. If the youngsters are good enough to play one down, Brooking and Bradie could be saved a little bit.
There's obviously a long time to go before anything is decided, and who knows which player is leading the competition right now, but even Wade Phillips admits there's a possibility both players could contribute on subpackages this year.
"They're both doing what we ask," Phillips said. "Both of them are really good athletes, so I have high hopes that they're going to come in and help us this year, maybe just on our dime stuff to start with, but I think both of them have possibilities of playing.
"The positions are silimar. Both of them are playing the same one right now, but they could play either one, really."
