Five Cowboys Who Should Worry About A Roster Spot

We are now two weeks removed from the draft and things have started to settle down. The bogus draft grades are all in and the lists have all been compiled, including the Dallas Cowboys who are in the most in danger of losing their jobs before the season begin.
The Cowboys selected nine players and signed 13 more undrafted free agents, so there will be some casualties from the 2015 team. Here are the five most likely players to be cut this summer (aside from Darren McFadden, who is on everyone’s list to be released).
1. Safety J.J. Wilcox: Most people will say this is where Barry Church fits in because the Cowboys can save more money by giving him the ax, but he’s a better player than Wilcox, plain and simple. Wilcox’s best trait his ability to deliver the big hit, but he misses more often than he connects giving up explosive plays. Also, the team re-signed Jeff Heath, moved Byron Jones to safety permanently and drafted Kavon Frazier, which should all signal the end of J.J. Wilcox.
2. Defensive tackle Terrell McClain: He showed flashes of being a very good player, but he just cannot stay healthy enough to keep around. The Cowboys signed Cedric Thornton, drafted Maliek Collins and brought in rookie run-stuffer Rodney Coe after the draft to ensure the team had an answer if McClain got hurt again. Those precautions could make the veteran defensive tackle expendable if the Cowboys wanted to shed some salary.
3. Offensive tackle Charles Brown: Dallas could go heavy on the offensive line, but if Chaz Green shows us all why the team drafted him in the third round last year, Brown may not be needed as the swing tackle. Ronald Leary and Joe Looney make great veteran options to pair with Green, which could mean there’s no room at the Inn for Brown. It’s a very versatile group of offensive linemen, so keeping just eight is a real possibility.
4. Linebacker Andrew Gachkar: The veteran linebacker is a jack of all trades, but he could be out of a job by the end of the summer. The Cowboys really like Mark Nzeocha, who missed all of 2015 with a knee injury and he will be one of the real surprises in training camp (prediction). Gachkar is likely on the outside looking in, especially if second-year player Damien Wilson improves and Nzeocha arrives.
5. Wide Receiver Devin Street: Let’s be honest, Street hasn’t done much to keep his roster spot. He only has nine receptions in his first two seasons, which has left Street in danger of being cut. Brice Butler has more upside and the team seems to be believers in his skill set, so the writing appears to be on the wall. The Cowboys also brought in undrafted free agent receiver and athlete Andy Jones, who could be a deep threat the offense needs.
It’s still May and there are mini-camps, OTAs and training camp that will decide if any of these players stay or go. Right now, these are a few of the players who are on the roster bubble for the Dallas Cowboys.
