Jerry Jones surprised at Cowboys' 20-year SB drought
Back when he was celebrating his team's third Super Bowl win in Super Bowl XXX, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would never have believed that the team would not have earned at least its fourth championship in the ensuing twney years according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.
“Well, I saw how we got there for the first three that I was involved with,” Jones said at the Senior Bowl. “I’m the most surprised person in Mobile, or the country, that we haven’t been back to and competed in a Super Bowl. But I know firsthand that you can go from the outhouse to the penthouse, and I’ve experienced it. Consequently, that fact has always driven me to know that it’s just around the corner. There’s a pony in here somewhere.”
In that twenty years, a cornucopia of coaches and players have starred (or not) for the Cowboys including current head coach Jason Garrett and 35-year-old quarterback Tony Romo. Unfortunately, the team has kept the same general manager-Jerry Jones. Unless the owner somehow gets the guts and the foresight to fire himself, a lot more years of failed expectations seem to the offing for Cowboys fans.
