• With QB Jon Kitna unable to practice, Stephen McGee led the second-team offense. Meanwhile, reserve QB Tom Brandstater, who was signed last week, received more repetitions than he has since he joined the team.
• Rookie Bill Nagy worked at first-team left guard, a position that has yet to be settled after Kyle Kosier moved to the right side.
• DE Kenyon Coleman was working with the first team in place of Igor Olshansky, who has struggled so far in the preseason. Olshansky made only two assisted tackles in the Cowboys' 24-23 victory over Denver last Thursday.
• In team drills, the Cowboys opened with a reverse. But it didn't work according to plan. WR Dez Bryant botched the handoff to Miles Austin on the end around as the ball dropped to the turf.
• In a hurry-up drill, K Dan Bailey missed a 45-yard field goal as the ball sailed wide of the right goal post. He is missed four of his last five attempts and has now converted 37 of his 47 tries in camp. Buehler, who didn't attempt a field goal Monday, has made 35 of 49 attempts.
• CB Orlando Scandrick had a productive day. He batted down three passes in team drills, including one intended for WR Kevin Ogletree that he almost intercepted. Later, he made acrobatic play when he jumped and deflected a deep pass from QB Tony Romo that almost landed in the hands of Bryant. Earlier in the practice, Bryant made a nice catch near the sideline with Scandrick draped over him.
• On the second segment of team drills, the defense came out with seven players crowding the line of scrimmage. When they rushed, Romo threw off his back foot and the pass fell incomplete over the middle.
• Inside LB Orie Lemon barged into the backfield twice. Early in the practice, he forced QB Stephen McGee to unleash a short pass to TE Martellus Bennett. Later, Lemon would have sacked McGee, who threw incomplete on a deep pass over the middle.
• QB Tony Romo was able to lure NT Jay Ratliff offsides while executing a hard count in a short-yardage situation. Ratliff slapped his hands together in frustration as he left the field. However, the defense didn't jump across the line of scrimmage the next two times the offense tried the maneuver.
• CB Chris Randle intercepted a short pass to the flat thrown by Stephen McGee in 9-on-9 drills. He later blanketed WR Curtis Clay on a deep pass by McGee to the sidelines that fell incomplete.
• S Barry Church made a nice play when he hit WR Lyle Leong in the backfield on a screen pass. He also forced an incompletion on a pass intended for Jason Witten.
• Using a band device, G Montrae Holland, who has been sidelined with a back injury, was working on the side with the training staff.
• The team worked on a punt-block drill. Mats were carried onto the field and placed in between the hash marks to cushion the fall as the players dived to deflect the ball.
• RB Lonyae Miller had several good runs, forcing his way into the second level.
